I was super excited when I received a package from Schar!
They had sent two loaves of their new artisan sandwich bread, a white bread and a multi-grain. It was so nice of them to send us a product to review! At our house we are a lovers of all things Schar. Many of the recipes we used to make before going gluten-free, such as Papas a la Huancaina or Aji de Gallina (recipe coming soon), we have found that we can use their products as replacements for their gluten counterparts and they work perfectly. A Different Kind of Gluten-Free Bread
The first thing I noticed was that the loaves were larger than most gluten-free bread loaves. It seemed that they would make a normal sized sandwich. Generally, when using gluten-free bread, I end up making two sandwiches because the pieces are small. These were perfect. Nice and large, the way bread should be. You could cut off the crust (though I don’t know why you would want to) and there would still be bread there, which is awesome. The bread comes vacuum packed so it has a long shelf life, if you ever find it on sale, definitely stock up. For the Artisan White Bread, I decided to make chicken salad sandwiches with bacon and avocado. My husband loves my chicken salad (which is ridiculously easy to make) and who doesn’t love a sandwich with bacon and chicken salad is so easy to make. On the Artisan Multi-Grain I went for your classic grilled cheese.
Both loaves were delicious.
My husband and his friend ate the entire loaf of Artisan White Bread and Chicken Salad. It was soft, fluffy, and it did not crumble. It held together perfectly. I didn’t tell them it was gluten-free until after it was gone. They thought I had bought it at some fancy place, when Schar said it was “artisan” they meant it! The multi-grain was equally good, and held up so well to being filled with cheese and pan-fried. There was no way anyone would have guessed that this was gluten-free. In my local grocery store, Schar bread products are found in the bread aisle. They do tend to run a couple dollars more than other gluten-free brands, but when I asked my husband if it was worth it, he gave a resounding, “Yes!” Schar’s New Artisan Bread is definitely a favorite at our house.
Next time you are at the store, grab a loaf Schar’s New Artisan Bread and whip up this super easy chicken salad or make up a gooey, grilled cheese, you will be glad you did!
Bacon and Avocado Chicken Salad Sandwich
- 2 boneless chicken breasts about 1 lb
- 1/2 cup mayonaise
- 8 slices cooked gluten-free bacon
- 1 hass avocados
- 1 to mato
- 8 slices Schar Artisan White Bread
- Season chicken liberally with salt and pepper. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes or until the thickest part of the chicken is white. Time may vary based on thickness of chicken breasts. Let chicken breasts cool slightly. Chop.
- Combine chopped chicken with mayonnaise. Feel free to add more if desired.
- Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Assemble sandwich with 2 slices of bacon, slice of tomato, 3 slices of avocado and chicken salad.
- It is so simple, yet so delicious! Enjoy!
