Summer Eats

I love summer food. It’s the time for grilling out and BBQ’s, popsicles and all kinds of frozen desserts, picnics and beach days full of all kinds of snacks.

Now I love seafood, and lobster is one of my favorites, but I had never had a gluten free lobster roll before. We have always grilled it or broiled it.

Fun Fact about Florida- We don’t actually get whole lobsters here in Florida, we only eat the tails. I’ve actually never had a whole lobster!

How to Serve a Gluten Free Lobster Roll

I learned something when I was researching traditional lobster rolls. While they are served on a hot dog bun, they are actually cut from the top of the bun, instead of the side like a for a hot dog.

Schar makes some really good gluten free hot dog buns and they were perfect for these gluten free lobster rolls. Fluffy, but holds together great. No soggy rolls here!

Schar Gluten Free Hot Dog Buns

The buns come 4 to a pack and don’t need to be refrigerated or frozen.  Little side tip- Schar’s stay fresh packaging makes them great for hurricane season. Keep a few Schar breads on hand just in case the storm hits!

Lobster Roll Ingredients- lobster, herbs, mayo and lemon

Lobster Roll Ingredients

Lobster rolls are really simple to make. It’s basically a lobster salad with fresh herbs, mayo, and a little lemon.

I personally boiled my lobster tails, but you can also grill or broil them. Whatever works best for you.

A little tip- double check that your lobsters are fresh. When you look at the tail it should be white on the end and smell clean. If it’s at all gray, go somewhere else. Unfortunately, I have learned from experience how bad lobster can smell when it’s bad. You don’t want that experience!

After my lobster is cooked, I like to toss it in a pan with a little bit of melted butter. Just adds a little bit of flavor before mixing in themayo, herbs, and lemon.

These look delicious! Out west, lobster rolls aren’t so much of a thing, but I remember trying them when in the northeast. They were so easy to order dairy free, too!

That sure looks like a delicious sandwich filling! I guess we can make that too with crab meat or chopped cooked shrimps. Got to get some hotdog rolls too and make this for my husband.

Can you believe I’ve never had a Lobster Roll?! Sounds like the perfect summer dish, I must try! My favorite meal to have on a warm summer evening has to be BBQ sausage with peppers though.

I’ve always heard about lobster rolls, but I thought they were too difficult to do. Cooking lobster is something I’ve been afraid to try. This recipe really sounds doable. And I love Schar products, but I haven’t tried the hotdog or hamburger buns yet. I have to try this out.
