Taste of Gluten Free Louisiana

Maybe it is because it is the first place my husband and I went together, but I just love New Orleans and Louisiana in general. The food, the people, the culture, the food (it’s worth mentioning twice!). I haven’t been since diagnosed with Celiac Disease, but when Cookin’ Wit Gus and U.S. Sauce Co. contacted me to try some of their gluten free products I jumped on the chance to get the taste of Louisiana.

Do you know how you know something that is gluten free is really good? When your non-gluten free friends come over, eat it, and LOVE it. That’s what happened with this Gluten Free Spicy Fry Mix from Cookin Wit Gus. It was so yummy. We don’t generally deep fry at our house, so we went ahead and made the fried chicken the same way we normally do. Boil till done, dip in egg, fry mix, and quickly pan fry on all sides. This fry mix worked like a charm and it was even still crispy when we warmed it up the next day!

I was pretty impressed. The fry mix is rice flour based and I usually have a problem with gluten free flours burning really quickly, but this one worked perfectly. It can also be used to make gravy. Cookin Wit Gus makes several different fry mixes for chicken, pork, beef, and fish. Be sure to follow me on Instagram to see what I make with the Pork Fry Mix next week!

While Cookin Wit Gus does have non-gluten free products, they have extremely strict cross contamination procedures in place. You can read more about their commitment to gluten free products and their understanding of what it means to be gluten free on their website.

U. S. Hot Sauce Company

Hot sauce is a must for any dish from Lousiana. In order to sample this Cafe Louisiana hot sauce from U.S. Hot Sauce Co properly, I had to make my Louisiana Style Red Beans and Rice.  The hot sauce was the perfect addition. A little bit vinegary, and hot, but not so hot that it masqued the flavor. It is going to be used quite a bit at our house. It is the perfect way to get a taste of gluten free Louisiana, without having to travel.

You can find out more about the U. S. Hot Sauce company on their website.

It is amazing what has gluten in it and what you can make to taste good still without using the ingredients with gluten in them. My mom has celiac so I am around gluten free stuff all the time
