A Recipe for Fried Seaweed to Impress Your Kids (Gluten-Free)


  • 1 package dried seaweed You can also use kale if seaweed isn't available
  • 1 cup of or rapeseed oil or canola
  • 1/2 teaspoon Chinese 5 Spice powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt


  • Heat the oil in a saucepan with high sides. Add a sheet of seaweed (or kale if using) allowing it to deep-fry for about two minutes or till crispy.
  • Using tongs or a slotted spoon, remove seaweed and allow to drain on paper towels.
  • Repeat with the other seaweed sheets.
  • Turn off the heat and remove the excess oil from the pot.
  • Carefully break the seaweed sheets into chip sized pieces.
  • Add back to the pot and toss with powdered spice, sugar, and salt till well combined.
  • Put it in a serving bowl, serve it and enjoy!
