Gluten Free Girl Scout Cookies
The cry for gluten free girl scout cookies has been answered! Ok, so it may have been answered a year or two ago, but this is the first chance I’ve had to try these Toffee-Tastic cookies. It is not for lack of trying. I have looked. Every time I see the girl scouts out in front of a store, I stop, but no one has them. Last night, fate shone down upon me. I met a girl scout who was selling the gluten free girl scout cookies at my gluten free support group.
It was the first time since I was diagnosed with Celiac, that I went to the local gluten-free support group, Gluten-Free South Florida. If you do not attend your local support group, I highly encourage you to. It was fantastic. So much great information and amazing people, all on the same journey.
But I digress, this post is about the cookies.
I got to tell you. I thought they were pretty good. I mean just look at them. Crispy, buttery and sprinkled with bits of toffee. I had mixed feelings about my purchase. Happy, because they were good, and sad, because the whole box was gone in one day. In my defense, I didn’t eat them all, the baby and hubby helped.
The 3 Reasons why you will love them.
1) They taste good.
If you have been gluten free for any length of time, you know that finding a good gluten free cookie is hard. My best comparison to what this cookie reminds me of is a Pecan Sandie. It’s a bit on the dry side, kinda like a shortbread cookie, but it did not crumble. Sweet, but not overly so. The girl scout I purchased them from described them as sugar cookies with toffee bits, and I would find that fairly accurate.
2) They are certified gluten free.
Toffee-Tastic Gluten Free Girl Scout cookies are not made in the same facility as other girl scout cookies, they are certified gluten free. If you would like to know more about the certification process you can read about it on Little Brownie Bakers website.
3) You are supporting a great organization.
The Girl Scouts are all about helping girls to build confidence and fulfill their potential while having fun. It has been working with girls for over a 100 years. Yes, the gluten free girl scout cookies are a 1.00 more a box, but they are not making more profit, they are just more expensive to produce.
If you haven’t already tried them, call up your local girl scout troop and see if you can grab a box. It’s a sweet treat that supports a great organization! Already tried them? Leave a comment, tell me what you thought!
